What is the future of your Aadhaar card after death? Have you ever
wondered this question? The central government has already started thinking
about it. Find out here what will happen to your Aadhaar card after death.
The
Registrar of India has sought advice from UIDAI for a framework where one can
apply for the deactivation of the deceased's Aadhaar card. Yes, that's right. Have
you ever wondered what could happen to your Aadhaar card after death? This time
the central government has started that thinking.
Aadhaar card is
now closely related to the life of every Indian. Aadhaar card is required to
take advantage of any financial transaction and government project without
identity card. Aadhaar is also required at the time of filing income tax and
taking covid vaccine. At the same time, it has become mandatory for KYC to have
Aadhaar in most places. Nowadays children are going to apply for Aadhaar before
getting the birth certificate. But, what will happen to Aadhaar after death?
This is the question of lakhs of rupees now.
According to
the government, Aadhaar is not deactivated after death. What will happen to the
base of the dead person? Replying to a question, State Minister for Electronics
and Information Technology Rajiv Chandrasekhar told the Lok Sabha that there
was no way to deactivate the Aadhaar of a person after his death. Chandrasekhar
further said that there is no way to cancel Aadhaar yet. However, the
processing of this work has already begun.
The Minister of
State for Electronics and Information Technology in the Lok Sabha said the
Registrar of India had sought advice from UIDAI on a framework where
applications could be made to deactivate the deceased's Aadhaar card. Under the
1969 Birth and Death Registration Act, it has been suggested to deactivate the
Aadhaar of the deceased at the time of making the death certificate.
There is no way
to know about the Aadhaar of a dead person at this moment. However, once this
infrastructure is created, the registrar can find the Aadhaar number of the
deceased and deactivate it. And once this process starts, it will be possible
to stop the misuse of the deceased's Aadhaar card.
Last month,
UIDAI started the process of updating phone numbers with Aadhaar cards through
postmen. As a result, phone numbers linked to Aadhaar can be updated at home.
And for that, UIDAI has tied up with Indian Post Payments Bank. UIDAI will do
this with the help of 650 India Post Payments Banks across the country. 1.46
lakh postmen and rural postal workers will be involved in this work. For now,
India Post Payments Bank will also start Aadhaar enrollment in the future, even
if it only launches a phone update service.
Incidentally,
the Aadhaar card was introduced in 2009 during the UPA government. Already
128.99 crore citizens across the country have registered in this biometric
identity card.
